There's a long way to go before she can try for her LPGA Tour card but Leona Maguire's level par 72 was a decent start to Stage II of the Qualifying Tournament in Florida.

The 21-year old world amateur No 1 is tied for 42nd at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice with the top 80 and ties after 72 holes going through to Stage III at LPGA International in Florida's Daytona Beach from November 28 to December 4.

Scores

The Duke University and Slieve Russell star got off to the perfect start on the par 72 Bobcat Course with a birdie at the 10th.

But while she bogeyed the 11th and 12th and followed a birdie at the par-five 16th with a bogey five at her penultimate hole, she finished with a birdie four to end the day tied for 43rd, five shots behind the pace-setters, Americans Kathleen Ekey and Beth Allen and Australia's Hannah Green, who shot five under par 67s.

England's Charlotte Thomas (Bobcat Course) and Bronte Law (Panther Course) are tied for eighth after three under 69s.
