Leona Maguire seven shots back after opening 75 in Singapore

Leona Maguire failed to make a birdie in a three-over 75 and finds herself seven shots off the lead in the HSBC Women’s World Championship in windy Singapore.

The Co Cavan star (30) started on the back nine at Sentosa Golf Club’s Tanjong Course, but after making a double bogey seven at the 16th, she dropped another shot at the third and ended the day tied for 37th in the 66-strong field.

Korea’s A Lim Kim made five birdies before dropping a late shot at the par-five 15th en route to a four-under 68 in 22mph gusts and a one-shot lead over England’s Charley Hull.

“I've changed a lot because my shape before I used the draw, but from that, I used the fade and focus on inside 130 yards, and then putts inside six yards and keep working on that,” Kim said of the changes in her game.

Hull revealed before the tournament that her pre-round habit of going for a run has worked well.

“I have to,” she said after her bogey-free 69. “I'm miserable all day if I don't train in the morning.

“I actually find that I swell more on the golf course if I don't run. I said to my caddie, yesterday morning, I didn't train before I played and I was swollen out there, and today I wasn't.

“Gets my heart pumping and makes me feel loose and like I'm one step ahead of everyone.”

Gaby Lopez, Hye Jin Choi, Ruoning Yin and Minjee Lee were tied for third after the 70s.

“It was a tough day,” Choi said. “It was a little bit tricky. I had a lot of, like, make for par, and then have some good shots with tough holes.

“Make a lot of bogey, and I make par on the 18th. So it's my best, I think.”
