Walsh leads Irish in Portugal; Ireland fall 7-2 to England in Octagonal Matches

Lahinch’s Aideen Walsh shot a four-over 76 to go into the final round tied for 29th in the Portuguese International Ladies Amateur at Montado on seven-over par.

Hermitage’s Kate Lanigan is a shot further back in 35th after a 73 while Kirkistown Castle’s Beth Coulter missed the cut by three strokes on 12-over after a 76.

Italy’s Francesca Fiorellini shot a four-under 68 to lead by two shots from France’s Maylis Lamoure (69) on nine-under.

In the Octagonal Matches at Costa Ballena in Cadíz, Ireland’s men’s team lost 7-2 to England and now play Italy for fifth place as England take on hosts Spain for the title. (Live)

England won the foursomes 2-1 with Castle’s Robert Moran and Galway’s Liam Nolan 3&2 winners over Jack Cope and Jack Brooks.

But the singles did not go well and while David Kitt had a 3&1 win over Sam Bairstow, Ireland lost the other five matches with just two of them going to the 18th.
