PGA Challenge moves to The Heritage
The 2019 PGA Challenge has found a new home for 2019, the superbly appointed Heritage Golf and Spa Resort.
The Johnston, Mooney and O'Brien sponsored event, now in its 16th year will be played on July 10th and will feature a prize fund of €13,000. The PGA Challenge Pro-Am will precede the tournament on July 9th.
“We have a long association with the event dating back to 2011 and we are happy to continue supporting the PGA Challenge. We look forward to visiting The Heritage in July,” said Derek Stokes, Commercial Director, JMO'B.
Banbridge GC professional, Richard Kilpatrick, claimed last year's PGA Challenge title in testing conditions at Tulfarris. Richard followed up an opening round 67 (-5) with a one over par 73 to beat Waterville’s David Higgins by three shots.
The Seve Ballesteros designed course in Killenard, Co Laois, is a regular stop on the PGA in Ireland schedule, most recently hosting last year's Heritage Challenge Pro-Am which was won by Michael McGeady (Evolve Golf Coaching).
“Since it opened in 2004 The Heritage has played host to many prestigious professional golf events including the Seve Trophy, the Irish Seniors Open and more recently the celebrated Heritage PGA in Ireland Pro-Am. We are delighted that this tradition is continuing with the staging of the 2019 Johnston Mooney & O’Brien PGA challenge in July,” said PGA in Ireland Regional Manager, Michael McCumiskey.
“The Heritage has become a favoured stop for golfing enthusiasts, many of whom are naturally drawn to the venue because of the association with the late great Seve Ballesteros. We know this event will attract a great deal of interest from the professionals and their Pro-Am partners.”
