Connemara's Luke O'Neill tied for eighth in the Spanish Under 18 Boys Open at La Cañada in Cádiz.

Just three shots off the lead after rounds of 67, 73 and 68, he closed with a two-over 73 to finish 12 strokes behind winner David Puig on three-under 281.

Puig shot an extraordinary, seven-under-par 64 to win by three strokes on 15-under 269 from compatriot Eduard Rousaud with Hugo Aguilar a shot further back after a 65.

Jaime Morales closed with a 62 to finish fourth on 279.

O'Neill is a member of the Galway team that won last year's AIG Senior Cup at Carton House and went on to retain the Connacht title at Roscommon Golf Club last month.
