Graeme McDowell went off his greens at The Open but vowed to bounce back and prove he can be Daddy Cool for his kids

Set to become a father for the second time next month, the Portrush ace wants to add to his 2010 US Open triumph and show them he can still play a bit.

Set to turn 37 at the end of the month, G-Mac said: “I am not in my 40s and I have a little boy coming. 

"I want to hang around long enough to show him Daddy can play as opposed to Daddy could play. 

“That’s my goal right now in life.”

After closing with a 76 that left him tied 63rd on 10 over, the Portrush man had mixed feelings about his week,

But he was disappointed with his form on greens he felt were far too slow for his precise style.

Summing it all up, McDowell said: “Frustrating. The putter killed me on Thursday and it killed me again today. 

“I got off to a slow start, I three-whacked the first and then missed a short putt on two and a short putt on four.

"It's been three weeks of not very good green surfaces, for a guy like me who relies on his putter and being able to make those five or six footers, I feel that when they are slow and bumpy like they are it just doesn't suit me well.

"This is what I was born and bred on but it's not what my meat and drink is these days.

"I'm used to slightly purer surfaces and to be honest France were tough and this week were very tough, the best surfaces I've seen these past three weeks were probably in Scotland, bizarrely.”

McDowell plays the Canadian Open this week followed by the US PGA and the Barclays with one eye on forcing his way into the reckoning for a Ryder Cup place or a wildcard.

Shocked to think he has just 10 days to go before he tees it up in his next major, he said: “That's crazy, pretty mad. It's unusual but it's an unusual summer. 

“But I'm ready to get out of the wind, looking forward to getting back over to sunshine.”
