Royal County Down Ladies' Olivia Mehaffey shot a two under par 70 to open up an eight-shot shot lead in the Telegraph BMW Junior Golf Championship at Quinta do Lago

The world amateur No 16 posted six birdies and four bogeys in a round that was outstanding for her performance around the greens.

According to reports, the Irish star holed putts ranging from a 20 footer for birdie to a 40-foot par save.

“I just want to go as low as I can and I really hope I can do a bogey-free round tomorrow,” the Banbridge-based junior told the Daily Telegraph. “Once I think about what club I want, I just go and hit it.”

Mehaffey leads on three under 141 from overnight co-leader Eloise Healey. who shot a 78 for 149.
