West Waterford's Seamus Power is seven shots behind new course record holderRichard Fountain after the opening round of the Golf Tour's $250,000 Championship at Red Hawk in Nevada.

The third of four events in the US mini tour's season-eniding Million Dollar Championship Series, Power fired a three under 68 at the Robert Trent Jones-designed Lakes Coure to share 35th spot behind Fountain, who an eagle and eight birdies en route to a 10-under 61 on the Hale Irwin-designed Hills course in the new 72-hole event. While Power made it through Stage One of the Web.com Tour Q-School earlier this month, Fountain recovered from the disappointment of missing out to lead from California's Ben Geyer, who shot a nine under 63 on the Lakes.

The Championship at Red Hawk is the third of four tournaments between August and December that make up the Charlotte, North Carolina based tour’s Million Dollar Championship Series.

The top players from the 2014 eGolf Tour, 2014 eGolf Tour West and 2013-14 eGolf Tour Florida, as well as the game’s up-and-coming professional stars from the recent college ranks and international play, compete for guaranteed purses totaling $1 million dollars in prize money over the four-event series.

The season-ending $300,000 Tour Championship on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina will cap off the Million Dollar Championship Series in early December, awarding the tournament champion a first-place prize of $50,000.

Power leads the eGolf Tour's money list with earnings so far this year of more than $75,000 thanks to two wins and eight Top-10s from 14 starts. 

Power is one step away from a place on the Web.com Tour next season having qualified for Stage Two of the Q-School next month. 

If he makes it to the final stage he'll have status on the PGA Tour's second tier circuit.
