Maybin has Davy Jones in his locker
Gareth Maybin has parted company with caddie Dave Renwick and taken on Ulsterman Davy Jones.
No, that's not big David Jones, the former tour player from Bangor who is now a member of the European Tour's Board of Directors. It's Davy Jones from City of Derry as far as we are aware.
Now 29, Davy played in the Home International matches in 1998 when he was just 18. It was no great surprise because he won the Irish Boys, Leinster Boys, Munster Boys and Connacht Boys titles as well as the Galway Scratch Cup that year.
He won the Tom Montgomery Perpetual Award in 1996 with 110 points and again in 1998 with a record 160 points (he played Ulster Youths from 1997 to 1998, playing 10 matches and played Ulster Boys from 1994 to 1996, playing 16 matches).
Jones turned professional and received grants from the Team Ireland Golf Trust but failed to earn a card on the European Tour.
