Lots of loot but no cigar for Harrington
Phil Mickelson won the Tour Championship with a closing 65. Tiger Woods was second and forced to look happy because he won the FedExCup.
As for Padraig Harrington, he closed with a 69 to finish tied for fourth at East Lake and seventh in the FedExCup, earning a cheque for $1.03m. He never stopped smiling.
It would have been $1.13m but a bogey at the last proved expensive. What's another $100,000 when you get a $700,000 FedExCup bonus plus $330,000 for finish fourth in a 30-man field.
Harrington has gained much in terms of confidence in the last eight weeks, finishing in the top 10 a career best six times in a row. He calls it clarity.
He's also banked $2.8m in prize money and bonuses but heads into the last six weeks of the season still looking for that first win.
This week it's the Dunhill Links with JP McManus. If he doesn't win, he can always console himself with the money. Another top finish would be worth over €65,000.
