Teenage phenomenon Lisa Maguire produced what can only be described as an exhibition of golf to crush Mary Dowling 5 and 4 and succeed her twin sister Leona as the Lancome Irish Women’s Close champion at Fota Island.

Lisa Maguire with the Irish Women's Close trophyThe 14-year old from Slieve Russell in Co Cavan played the first eight holes in an astonishing six under par with birdies at the second, third, fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth putting her five up.

The young Cavan girl, a virtual certainty to join her sibling in the Great Britain and Ireland Vagliano Trophy side to face Continental Europe in Hamburg from July 24-25, took just 11 putts on the front nine.

Dowling won the ninth with a birdie to turn four down and while she lost the 10th to a par and won the 11th when Maguire missed a five footer for par, she dropped a shot on the par-five 13th to go five down with five to play and shook hands on the next green when she failed with a 15 footer for birdie.
