Royal Dublin's Hugh Foley made an eagle two and three birdies in a one-under 70 to win the best gross in the TaylorMade Summer Series at Portmarnock Links.

He edged out 15-year old Daniel Mulligan on a countback as Portmarnock's James Temple took third with a 71.

Out in level par after mixing birdies at the fourth and ninth with bogeys at the third and eighth, Leinster interprovincial Foley holed his 100-yard approach for a two at the 10th, zipping it back into the hole.

A birdie at the 15th moved him to three-under, but while he bogeyed the 16th and 17th, his 70 was good enough to win the top gross prize from the in-form Mulligan.

The teenager went out in one-under-par as he sandwiched a bogey at the third between birdies at the second and sixth, then came home in level as he bogeyed the 17th but birdied the last.

Temple, who has caddied regularly at Portmarnock Links in recent summers, went out in one-over as he followed a birdie at the sixth with a double-bogey at the seventh.

But he came back in one-under for his 71, mixing birdied at the 15th and 18th with a dropped shot at the difficult 17th.

In the nett, Portmarnock Links' Lloyd Rooney was the only player to beat his handicap on the day, picking up birdies at three of the last four holes to card a nett 68 off four and win by four strokes from Cairndhu's Jonathan Hall and Elm Park's James Flemming.

Out in two-over as he followed an opening birdie with bogeys at the second, fourth and ninth, he came home in one-under-par.

Four-over for the day after he left his third shot in a bunker at the 13th and ran up a double-bogey, he missed a short birdie putt at the 14th, but then went on the rampage and birdied the 15th, 16th and 18th for a memorable 72 gross.

Hall shot one-over for each nine, picking up birdies at the second and index-one 12th in a 73 for his nett 72 as Flemming birdied the sixth and 16th for a 77 gross and a fine, nett 72.
