Injured McNamara opens 2019 with top-10
Headfort’s Rory McNamara got 2019 off to a positive start when he overcame an infected thumb to finish tied seventh the the Pro Golf Tour’s weather-reduced Red Sea Egyptian Classic.
Playing the A and B courses at Sokhna Golf Club, the former North and West of Ireland champion followed an opening 71 with a two-under 70 to tie for seventh on three-under.
“The tournament was reduced to two rounds because of extreme wind but I was happy enough to shoot 71-70 because I had a bad infection in my left thumb,” said McNamara (29).
His next event is the Red Sea Ain Sokhna Classic on the B and C courses at Sokhna from January 21-23.
Meanwhile, the Alps Tour gets underway at Sokhna on February 19 with Conor O'Rourke, Jonny Yates, David Carey, Simon Bryan and amateur Peter Dallat all expected to enter the Ein Bay Open.
