Leona and Lisa Maguire joined Olivia Mehaffey in missing out at Sectional Qualifying for the US Women's Open last night
All three will tee it up in the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma this weekend looking for better luck — the Maguires for Duke and Mehaffey for defending champions Arizona State.
Leona finished six shots outside the top two qualifying spots on four-over-par at Bermuda Run in North Carolina, the damage done by an opening 77 which she followed with a one-under 71 as Lisa finish four shots further back after rounds of 75 and 77.
New York' Nannette Hill took the top spot on three under after adding a 68 to her opening 73 to win the qualifier by one stroke from Hawaii's Britney Yada (72 70/-2) on three-under.
Mehaffey was disappointed to miss out by a single shot in her Sectional Qualifier at Arizona Country Club on Monday.
The Arizona State and Ireland star (20) fired five birdies in a five-under 67 to take the first round lead
But she could only manage a 72 in the afternoon and ended up tied for third on five-under 139 with South Korea’s Heeyoung Park.
Tiger Woods’ niece Cheyenne Woods shot two 69s to top the qualifiers on six-under with Italy’s Giulia Molinaro, who stormed through the field with second round 66.
“Pretty gutting missing the US Open by one stroke but I’m proud of how I played today taking low Am and 1st alternate spot with scores of 67 and 72,” Mehaffey said on social media.
