Rosslare's Paul Murphy opened with a one-under 69 to lead the Irish challenge after the first round of the Faldo Series Grand Final in Abu Dhabi.
Murphy is tied for sixth place Al Ain Equestrian Shooting & Golf Club, three strokes behind Wales’ Toby Bishop and England’s George Goddard, who shot four-under 66s to lead by two shots.
Royal Dublin’s Max Kennedy leads the Boys Under 18 section, tied for ninth overall after a level par 70 with Cork’s Rachel Thompson fifth in the Girl Under 21 standings, tied 25th over after three-over 73.
