Killeen's Behan and Walsh win Coronation Foursomes at St Andrews

Killeen's Siobhan Behan and Lorraine Walsh claimed a narrow one-point win in the Coronation Foursomes Grand Final over the Eden Course at St Andrews.

Playing off eight and 23 respectively, Siobhan and Lorraine racked up an impressive tally of 41 nett stableford points to win by the narrowest of margins from Hayston Golf Club's Susan Thom (18) and Joyce Woollon (19).

The Kildare duo score 19 points on the front nine and 22 points in a sparkling inward half en route to a gross score of 84 strokes.

That second nine holes won it for Behan and Walsh as they were trailing Thom and Woollon and six-handicapper Julie Burton and Claire Howells from Moor Hall after nine holes with both pairs having 20 points to their credit at the turn.

As a result of their win, Behan and Walsh receive a place in next year's Ricoh Women's British Open pro-am at Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club.

Aughnacloy's Roisin Corry (18) and Ann McKenna (12) also took part, finishing with 21 points.

The 16 pairs who contested the Grand Final had come through local and regional finals.
