Power gets motoring with 66 at John Deere
Seamus Power closed with a sensational birdie for a 66 and a major move up the leaderboard in the John Deere Classic.
The West Waterford man hit a 180-yard approach to three feet at the ninth — the toughest hole at TPC Deere Run — to card a five-under par round and move up 26 spots to tied 44th.
At five-under par, Power is 11 strokes behind Patrick Rodgers, who shot a 68 to lear by two strokes on 16-under par from Daniel Berger (63) and Scott Stallings (64).
But he will have gained plenty of confidence from his third round, which featured an eagle two at the 313-yard 14th after he hit his tee shot to 13 feet and made the putt.
Power then birdied the first from 13 feet and got up and down from sand for par at the fourth before rapping home a 27 footer for birdie at the fifth (his 14th).
He then finished in style to give himself a fighting chance of earning some FedEx Cup points on Sunday and moving closer to the top 125 from his current position of 145th. Scores
Before this week, Power had made 14 cuts from 20 starts, earning $386,889.
