Gavin Moynihan and Stephen Grant are in contention in the KPMG Trophy at Royal Waterloo Golf Club.
Spain's Pedro Oriol shrugged off the distraction of a two-and-a-half hour early morning rain delay to take a one-shot lead at halfway, carding a bogey-free second round of 64 to lead on 11 under par from Estanislao Goya and Francesco Laporta.
Moynihan was runner-up in the Andalucía Costa del Sol Match Play 9 nearly three weeks ago and the 22-year old is clearly playing with confidence and now just three shots off the lead on eight under after rounds of 67 and 69.
Grant, 40, also made one of his best starts to a Challenge Tour event, adding a 70 to his opening 67 to share ninth place on seven-under, just four off the pace.
Derry's Ruaidhri McGee has made a good start to the year and he made the cut on the mark with a par of 71s, sharing 58th with Ardglass' Cormac Sharvin, who followed a 68 with a 74.
Michael Hoey (73-71) birdied the 16th and 17th but then bogeyed the 18th to miss the cut by a shot as Kevin Phelan (72 75) finished on three over with Rory McNamara (75 74) two shots further back.
Chris Selfridge finished on 150 after rounds of 76 and 74.
