Leona sixth as Jing Yan wins Ladies British Open
Slieve Russell’s Leona Maguire finished sixth behind China’s Jing Yan in the Ladies’ British Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship at Prestwick.
The Chinese teenager closed with rounds of 73 and 69 to win by two strokes from Beaconsfield’s Gemma Dryburgh on 14 under par 282, adding to last week’s triumph in the British Girls’ at Fairhaven
Leona shot rounds of 76, 70, 74 and 76 to end the week on level par 296 with Castletroy’s Chloe Ryan the next best of the Irish on seven over.
Leona’s twin sister Lisa, who opened with a three under 71 to lie solo second, faded to 26th on 12 over after Friday rounds of 81 and 76.
