Lappin and Dawson set for British Boys showdown

Lappin added a five over 77 at Hoylake to his opening 68 at Wallasey to qualify in joint ninth place on over over 145 with Dawson back in 40th on six over after adding a 73 at Wallasey to his opening 77.
Lappin and Dawson were joined in the second round by The Island’s Paul McBride, who qualified in joint 19th on three over after a 71 at Wallasey.
McBride takes on Joao Girao of Portugal in the second round while Newlands’ Jake Whelan made the top 64 and ties on the eight over par limit and must play a first round match against Otto Mand from Llanwern.
If he wins, Whelan will go on to meet Bobby Keeble of Crowlands Heath in the afternoon.
England’s Jack Hermeston added a five-under-par 67 at Wallasey to his opening two-over-par 74 at Royal Liverpool to top the qualifiers by a shot from compatriots Robert Burlison and Samuel Wilkinson on three-under-par 141.
