Pula Golf named in top 50 European resorts

Pula Golf

Pula Golf Resort is continuing to rise in stature, with the Mallorca venue climbing into the top half of National Club Golfer’s latest ranking of the Top 100 European Resorts.

The new list, which names Pula as one of the best in Spain, has seen the resort jump five places to number 47 since the last edition in 2018.

The boost can be partly attributed to drastic improvements to the resort’s practice facilities – including the opening of a two-tiered TrackMan driving range in 2022, the first of its kind in Mallorca.

Off the course, investment in Pula’s accommodation has led to the completion of a number of new suites, which opened in 2022 and include rooms with kitchen facilities. Meanwhile, state-of-the-art gym and spa facilities - including an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, sauna and massage service – have given the historic hotel another string to its bow.

Extensively redesigned by national hero José María Olázabal in the mid-2000s, Pula’s par-72 course is consistently rated among the finest on the island and has been graced by some of golf’s biggest names. A five-time host venue on the DP World Tour, the challenging layout boasts a wide variety of holes that contain something for every golfer.

However, National Club Golfer’s respected rankings also evaluate the overall package of each resort – a test Pula has passed with flying colours. The rustic 16th-century hotel has been carefully looked after to maintain an old-world charm, while the S’Era de Pula restaurant boasts a menu full of Mediterranean flair and prioritises locally sourced, organic ingredients.

As the world of golf increasingly emphasises sustainability, Pula has stepped up with a number of eco-friendly initiatives in the years since the last ranking was published. Measures include installing solar panels, slicing plastic use and irrigating the golf course with recycled water, while a 6,000m2 eco-garden is the source of many ingredients used at the restaurant. This commitment led to Pula being officially classed as a Competitive Regenerative Hotel in 2021 before becoming the first resort to receive the ARC 360 sustainability certification in 2022.

Arnau Sala, general manager at Pula Golf Resort, said: “A lot of hard work has gone into improving the overall experience at Pula since the last National Club Golfer rankings, so it's great to see that has paid off with a move up the list.

“As well as our ongoing sustainability efforts which are a key focus here at Pula, we have opened our TrackMan driving range, the first of its kind in Mallorca, invested in our accommodation suites, opened new gym and spa facilities, and continued to refine the experience at the S'era de Pula restaurant. We want people to feel at home when they visit Pula, and to have everything they need at their fingertips. We're very proud to have cracked the Top 50 in all of Europe!

There could yet be more accolades to come in 2023 for Pula, with the venue nominated in four categories at the prestigious World Golf Awards, including ‘World’s Best Emerging Golf Destination’, ‘Europe’s Best Golf Venue’ and ‘Spain’s Best Golf Course’.
