Late US Women's Open starts for Meadow and Maguire
LEONA Maguire and Stephanie Meadow have been handed late tee times for the opening round of this week's $10 million (€9.31 m) US Women's Open at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in North Carolina.
Meadow (30), who was third on her professional debut in the 2014 US Open at Pinehurst No 2 on the event's last visit to North Carolina, is drawn with English duo Annabel Fuller and Bronte Law, teeing off on the ninth on Thursday at 6.15 pm and 12:59 pm from the first on Friday.
Solheim Cup star Maguire (27) also goes out in the latter half of the field in the first round in Southern Pines as she joins American Lizette Salas and 2019 US Open champion Jeongeun Lee6 from the Republic of Korea at 7.09 pm Irish time, also from the ninth, before heading out from the first at 1.54 pm Irish time on Friday.
Meanwhile, European captain Henrik Stenson has named Italy's Edoardo Molinari (41) as his second vice-captain for the 2023 Ryder Cup at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club near Rome, joining Dane Thomas Bjørn, the successful 2018 skipper, in the backroom team.
On the G4D Tour, world number one Brendan Lawlor opened with a one-over 73 to take a one-shot lead over world number two Kipp Popert of England and Spain's Juan Postigo Arce in the G4D @ Porsche European Open at Green Eagle Golf Courses in Hamburg.
