Phelan birdies last three to make the cut in Thailand
Waterford’s Kevin Phelan birdied his last three holes to make the cut on the mark in the Asian Tour’s International Series Thailand.
The former Walker Cup player carded a three-under 69 at Black Mountain Golf Club to finish on the mark on six under par, tied for 55th with the likes of former Irish Open champion John Catlin and DP World Tour regular Jazz Janewattananond.
Japanese teenager Ryo Hisatsune (19) upstaged many of the big-name players, carding a six-under-par 66 to lead by one from Koreans Sungyeol Kwon and Doyeob Mun, who both carded 66s, on 14-under.
Phelan birdied the third and fifth to get to five-under, bogeyed the ninth and 10th but got up and down for par at the 15th, then birdied the 16th, 17th and 18th to single putt the last four greens.
