Walker shows his class again at Portmarnock Links

Dundalk Golf Club's Leslie Walker outgunned tour players Paul Dunne, Cormac Sharvin and Brendan Lawlor with the best score of the day in the TaylorMade Winter Series at Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links.

The former British Boys champion carded a one-under 70 to win the nett by two shots from Sharvin and Lawlor as Clontarf's Eoin O'Brien won the gross with a level par 71 on a day when a southerly breeze tested the 90-strong field.

Walker birdied the third and sixth and bogeyed the ninth to turn in one-under, then came home in level par as he made up for bogeys at the 13th and 18th with birdies on the 12th and 14th.

Sharvin sandwiched a birdie at the par-five sixth between bogeys at the third and ninth to outgun his playing partner Dunne while EDGA professional Lawlor also shot 72 as he made birdies at the first and 16th against bogeys at the third13th and 15th.

In the gross, O'Brien dropped a shot at the fourth to go out in one-over before coming home in one-under thanks to eight pars and a lone birdie at the 14th for his level par 71

Royal Dublin's Richard Knightly beat his clubman Hugh Foley after a countback with a one-over 72.

Knightly went out in level par, got back to level with a birdie at the 11th, but then double-bogeyed the 12th and bogeyed the 17th before finishing with a birdie.

Foley went out in one-under-par with birdies on the first and ninth and a solitary bogey at the fifth.

But while he got to two-under with a birdie at the 11th, he bogeyed the 12th and then took eight at the par-five 13th before also finishing with a three at the 18th.
