Doherty edges out O’Rourke in Hilary opener
Corrstown’s Alan Doherty won the opening Hilary Golf Society outing of the season at a cool and blustery Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links.
The scratch handicapper made three birdies in his last six holes to card a one-under par 70 and edge out Naas four-handicapper Lloyd O’Rourke after a countback.
Another Corrstown man, Chris O’Connor, won the gross with a three-over 74 at the pristine north Dublin links.
The team prize was won by John Keogh (Beech Park), Jonathan Kelly (Athy), Dave Lowry (Corrstown) and Mike Kelly (Naas) with a score of 60.
The Hilary Golf Society, which is celebrating its 66th season, will host its next outing at Seapoint Golf Links on Sunday, February 10.
