Balbriggan ideal for "South" warm-up

Balbriggan Golf Club

Golfers preparing for stroke play qualifying for the South of Ireland Championship can take advantage of the 36-hole Balbriggan Senior Scratch Cup on July 15 to sharpen their games.

Run in conjunction with the Junior Scratch Cup and sponsored by Apache Pizza, the pristine, par-72, 6,637-yard parkland course is sure to be set up to reward attacking golf, which should mean healthy competition for the €500 top prize in the Senior Scratch Cup from the €1,500 prize fund.

The handicap limit for the Senior Scratch Cup is three (3) with the Junior Scratch Cup reserved for 4-9 handicappers.

Charlesland's Keith Murphy shot a brace of 72s to win the Senior Scratch Cup by two shots from Laytown and Bettystow's Thomas Mulligan last year as Slievenamon five-handicapper Jonathon Fitzpatrick posted scores of 77 and 76 to win the Junior event by a shot from Balbriggan's John Fitzpatrick.

There will be prizes for the first, second and third gross, the best overall nett and the best two gross scores in each round.

Entry costs €10 for members and €35 for visitors and entries can be made via the Balbriggangolfclub.com or by calling the club on 01 -8412229 Ext. 1.
