Former Ulster Youths champion Neil McKinstry carded a rollercoaster two over 72 but still takes a two stroke lead into the final round of the Irish Youths Amateur Open Championship at Galway Golf Club.

The Cairndhu and University of Ulster talent started with a birdie and had two more at the fourth and 17th. But he despite bogeys at the third, sixth and 14th and a double bogey seven at the par-five seventh he’s the only player in the red.

At two under par, he has a slim lead over Kinsale’s John Murphy (69) and Galway’s Cathal Nolan (72) with Tramore’s Robin Dawson (69), Galgorm Castle’s Jordan Hood (70) and Mallow’s James Sugrue (73)  lurking just three shots off the lead on one over.

In the concurrent Irish Colleges Invitational Tournament, the Maynooth C team of Murphy, Liam Grehan and Eanna Griffin lead by one stroke on 282 from Maynooth A side featuring Dawson, Sean Flanagan and Galway’s Ronan Mullarney.
