Dunne continues fine start to 2016 with 67 in Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Paul Dunne's impressive start to his professional career continued in California last night when he opened with a four under par 67 in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am.
The 23-year old from Greystones — who recently joined Phil Mickelson in the KPMG stable — showed Pádraig Harrington (68) and Shane Lowry (71) a clean pair of heels at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club. Leaderboard
Playing alongside David Duval, he ended his day tied for 16th, four strokes behind Chez Reavie, who shot an eight under 63 at the same venue to lead by one from Freddie Jacobson (65 at Pebble Beach), Cameron Smith and Bronson Burgoon, who both shot seven under 64s at Monterey Peninsula.
Dunne got off to a great start, according to ShotTracker, holing his third shot from the fairway for an eagle at the par-five 10th.
He three-putted the par three 11th for bogey but birdied four of his next five holes — the 18th, first, third and fourth — to move into the top 10 at five under par.
Another bogey four halted his progress but it was still a fourth sub-par round from seven in three PGA Tour appearance so far this year.
Harrington could also be pleased with his day's work as he closed with a birdie two, his fifth of the day, for a three under 68 that left him tied 29th.
Lowry had a far slower day alongside playing partner Dermot Desmond, dropping shots at the 11th (three putts according to ShotTracker) and 14th (greenside bunker) before a birdie four at the 16th helped him turn in one over.
The world No 21 warmed up after the turn and while he birdied the second and fifth to get into the red, a second three-putt of the day at the par-five sixth (according to ShotTracker) left him tied 82nd heading to Pebble Beach for Friday's second round.
World No 1 Jordan Spieth did not appear best pleased with his putting as he shot a one under 71 at Spyglass Hill to share 64th with No 3 Jason Day, who also played Spyglass.
Dunne is tied for sixth in the Pro-Am competition with International Golf Federation chief Peter Dawson (4) with a nine under 62 — two shots behind David Hearn and David Dube (10) who shot 60.
Harrington and JP McManus (12) are tied 61st after a five under 66 while Lowry and Desmond (10) are tied 97th after a three under 68.
