Walker Cup star Gavin Moynihan will be joined by Ballymena's Dermot McElroy, West Waterford's Gary Hurley and 2013 Irish Amateur Open champion Robbie Cannon in next month's Irish Open at Fota Island.

The quartet will miss the British Amateur Championship set for Royal Portrush and Portstewart from June 16-21, if they decide to take up their nominations by the GUI to tee it up in Cork from June 19-22.

University of Alabama and The Island star Moynihan missed the cut by a shot at Carton House last year while McElroy (21) missed out by a shot when he played in the 2012 Irish Open at Royal Portrush.

Hurley (21), who is a student at the NUI Maynooth, has made a strong start to the season, reaching the semifinals of the West of Ireland championship at Rosses Point.

Career amateur Cannon (35) is a past winner of the Irish Amateur Open and the South of Ireland Championship and reached the final of the "West" this year, where he lost by one hole to Jack Hume from Naas.

"I'm delighted to be representing my club Balbriggan Golf Club and the GUI at Fota Island, Cannon said. "It should be a special week and I'm very thankful to the GUI for nominating me. It's every Irish golfer's dream to play in the Irish Open so I can't wait".
