Headfort’s Rory McNamara led the way at Silkeborg Ry as he made six birdies in a two under 70 while East of Ireland champion Paul Dunne of Greystones managed a one over 73 despite a double bogey six at the last.

Rathsallagh’s Jack Hume and Mourne’s Reeve Whitson weighed in with three over 75s as Waterford Castle’s Kevin Phelan signed for a 78 featuing a triple and a double bogey.

The discarded score was a 79 by The Island’s Gavin Moynihan who failed to manage a birdie in a seven over 79 on a tight and tricky course.

France lead by seven strokes clear from Germany on one-over par with Ireland third on 11 over alongside Scotland (11 over). The Netherlands and Wales are on 13 over with Spain surprisingly 15th of the 16 competing nations on 26 over.

In the European Boys Amateur Team Championship at Murcar Links near Aberdeen, Ireland are tied for sixth, 13 shots behind pace-setters Italy.

Belvoir Park’s Gareth Lappin (despite a double bogey seven) and The Island’s Paul McBride shot one over 72s with Irish Boys Amateur Open champion Robin Dawson from Faithlegg weighing in with a 73.

County Sligo’s Sean Flanagan had three birdies in a 74 as Mallow’s James Sugrue, despite three double bogeys, held it together to post a 77.

Alex Myles was the discounted card after his 79 but Ireland are still well in the hunt.

In the European Ladies Amateur Team Championship at Fulford in York, Ireland are tied for seventh with France with the the top eight teams after Wednesday’s second round qualifying to play for medal positions and the remainder of the field contesting the minor placings.

World No 9 Stephanie Meadow was three over through the turn but stormed home in five under 31 for a two under 70 as Lisa and Leona Maguire shot two over 74s, Paula Grant a 76 and Maria Dunne a 77 with Chloe Ryan’s 83 discarded.

In the European Girls Team Championship at Linköpings GK in Sweden, Ireland are tied for 14th place with Belgium on 27 over.

Spain lead by one stroke from France on two over as Mary Doyle led the way for Ireland with a three over 75.

Niamh McSherry (76), Ariana Coyle Diez (77), Olivia Mehaffey (79) and Chloe Weir (80) were the other counting scores with Laura Doherty’s 84 discarded.
