McDowell new world No 9 - overtakes McIlroy
Graeme McDowell leapfrogged pal Rory McIlroy to reach a career high of ninth in the world following his third place finish in the Barclays Singapore Open on Monday.
The pair swapped places with McIlroy slipping one spot to 10th as Singapore champion Adam Scott rose 21 places to 20th and pushed Padraig Harrington out of the world’s top-20.
McIlroy is now sure to get some good natured ribbing from McDowell when they hook up at the UBS Hong Kong Open this week.
“You know, I’ve got one on him now with a major,” McDowell said following his US Open win. “I don’t remind him of that much [smiles]. As long as he is ahead of me in the world rankings, he’s going to be content.”
