Lawrie puts family before Vivendi Trophy
Peter Lawrie has no regrets about putting his family ahead of a place in Paul McGinley's Vivendi Trophy side.
The Dubliner missed out on a trip to Paris by just €15,210 when he opted to skip last week's Mercedes Benz Championship to be with his wife and new born baby daughter. As a result, he was leapfrogged in the rankings by England's Anthony Wall.
Lawrie said: "I knew I had a chance of making the team but I didn’t go to Germany because my wife had a baby last Thursday week.
"My number one priority is to my family and I have no regrets whatsoever. I had played my golf up to that point and I was always going to take time off when the baby was born.
"Anthony went past me by finishing sixth last week, so the best of luck to him."
McGinley's team has been decimated by the withdrawal of top players Paul Casey, Padraig Harrington, Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Luke Donald.
Teams (to be confirmed today Tues):
Great Britain and Ireland: Rory McIlroy, Ross Fisher, Oliver Wilson, Graeme McDowell, Chris Wood, Simon Dyson, Robert Rock, Nick Dougherty, Steve Webster, Anthony Wall.
Continental Europe: Henrik Stenson, Robert Karlsson, Soren Kjeldsen, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Soren Hansen, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, Alvaro Quiros, Peter Hanson, Anders Hansen, Francesco Molinari.
