Monty's top Ryder Cup moments
- Colin Montgomerie made his Ryder Cup debut at Kiawah Island in 1991. In the final day singles he came from four down with four to play against Mark Calcavecchia to gain a half.
- Montgomerie is the only European to gain the winning point twice - in 1997 and 2004 Ryder Cup Matches. At Valderrama he halved his singles game with Scott Hoch and then beat David Toms in their singles encounter at Oakland Hills seven years later.
- On his way his half point against Hoch, his tee shot at Valderrama’s 18th hole was awarded European Tour Shot of the Year in 1997
- He is only the second European player, following on from Bernhard Langer to play in five winning European Ryder Cup Teams
- From his eight Ryder Cup singles matches he has recorded six wins and two halves. His six victories is the equal highest in European Ryder Cup history – as is his total of seven points
- He was the leading points scorer in the 2002 Ryder Cup with four and a half points out of five. Was also Europe’s highest scorer in 1997 with three and a half points and joint-top scorer in 199, again with three and a half
- Formed a formidable partnership with Bernhard Langer. Together they played seven times in fourball and foursome play, winning five and a half points , winning five, halving one and losing just the once
- The afternoon foursomes on day one of The Ryder Cup of 2004 saw Montgomerie set a new European Ryder Cup record for consecutive games played - 29 – dating back to the day two fourballs of the 1991 Ryder Cup. His record finally went to 30 consecutive sessions.
