Lowry exits Amateur

Irish champion Shane Lowry put up a brave fight before crashing out of the British Amateur championship at the 19th.

The Esker Hills man was one down with three to play against England's Gary Boyd but battled back to take his third round match into extra holes.

Boyd eventually took the match at the 19th to end Irish interest at Royal Lytham.

Earlier in the day, Clandeboye's Jonathan Caldwell was beaten 3 and 2 by American Tom Glissmeyer.

Then County Louth's Simon Ward lost to another American, Drew Weaver, by two holes.

Leading qualifier David Horsey also made his exit, going down by two holes as Prestatyn's Jason Shufflebotham birdied the last three.
